Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Food Nutrify's nutrition calculators, data sources, and how to get the most out of our tools.
About Our Calculators
How do your nutrition calculators work?
Each calculator uses USDA FoodData Central data as its foundation. You select a food type (variant), choose a serving size, optionally adjust preparation method and added ingredients, and the calculator computes precise nutrition values — calories, macronutrients (protein, carbs, fat), fiber, and 20+ vitamins and minerals — all in real time in your browser.
How many foods do you cover?
We currently offer 21+ nutrition calculators spanning legumes, grains, millets, vegetables, pasta, bakery items, and prepared foods. Each tool covers multiple variants (e.g., our pie calculator includes 20 pie types, from apple to chicken pot pie). We add new foods regularly.
Can I customize serving sizes?
Yes. Every calculator includes 15–22 serving size options (by weight, common portions, and restaurant servings), plus a custom weight input. You can also adjust preparation methods and add ingredients like toppings or dressings to see their nutritional impact.
Do the calculators work on mobile?
Yes. All our tools are fully responsive and designed mobile-first. The calculators, nutrition labels, and comparison tables work on any screen size — phones, tablets, and desktops.
Data & Accuracy
Where does your nutrition data come from?
All base nutrition data is sourced from the USDA FoodData Central database — the gold standard for food composition data used by researchers, dietitians, and regulatory agencies worldwide. Our content sections also cite peer-reviewed academic publications with full DOI links.
How accurate are the nutrition values?
The values reflect standard USDA reference data for each food. Actual nutrition can vary based on specific brands, growing conditions, and preparation techniques. We display this clearly in each tool's disclaimer. For the most precise results, we recommend using the variant and preparation method that most closely matches what you're eating.
How often is the data updated?
We review and update our data with each major USDA FoodData Central database release. Every tool page displays a 'Data verified' date so you can see when the values were last checked. Content sections are also updated to reflect new academic research.
Do you account for cooking and preparation changes?
Yes. Each calculator includes preparation method adjustments (e.g., boiled, baked, fried, raw) with correction factors that account for moisture loss, fat absorption, and nutrient degradation during cooking.
Using the Website
Is Food Nutrify free to use?
Yes. All nutrition calculators, content, and tools are completely free — no signup, no paywall, no hidden fees. We believe accurate nutrition data should be accessible to everyone.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can use all our calculators immediately without registering, logging in, or providing any personal information.
Can I share calculator results?
Yes. Each calculator includes share buttons for Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp, and a copy-link function. You can also print the FDA-style nutrition label directly from the results.
Do you store my nutrition calculations?
No. All calculations happen entirely in your browser. We never transmit, store, or have access to your food choices, serving sizes, or results. Your data stays on your device.
